Elon Musk Just Proved He’s Now More Powerful Than Trump
Does that mean Musk is actually President of the United States?
This is mainly because Musk’s X is so much more impactful than Trump’s Truth Social.
Musk spent much of a frenzied day or so scuttling a rather run-of-the-mill end-of-the-year spending bill. (In fact, Trump himself then negotiated a bill to his liking that was surprisingly clear-headed. But guess what? Musk’s momentum killed that too!) Almost completely via sharing and posting on the platform Musk owns, which Trump no longer uses because he’s stuck using his own, with much less traffic. And far more frequently and prolifically over a short period of time than Trump — who was no Twitter slouch — ever did.
Musk’s move isn’t hard to understand from one perspective: because chaos is the way we’re going to be doing things from now on. I get that. (And something — let’s hope — may end up passing anyway, but that’s not the point of this story).
Also, as I’ve written before, Musk is totally relishing the power he’s able to muster through X, so a lot of whatever he’s doing mischief-wise (as in “can you f-ing believe I’m able to do this”?!) is simply for his personal amusement.
