We Are Happy To Live In A Country Where Someone Else’s Idea Of Loving Our Country May Be Different Than Ours
Otherwise, there’s not much of a point to having a Democracy…
Different people in different parts of the country would love their country differently, and express their love in different ways. That’s why we have Senators and Representatives from different states and different districts elected by the people of those states and districts to represent them, and the way they each individually love America. There are, and always have been huge differences related to a whole bunch of things. As long as a Representative is faithfully reflecting the wishes of the majority of people in their district, differences are good. They get a debate going. (And sometimes more). And that’s how our country is constantly changing and growing.
If there was only one way to “love our country” — only one true definition — you wouldn’t need a Constitution or elections or any of that: you’d just need one person with whom everyone agreed, or was forced to agree, to be an enforcer of that one correct way to love the U.S.A.
Meanwhile, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D) CA, got up on the House floor and did a remarkable and necessary thing: called the President out for being a racist. (Click on the photo to watch):
Republicans were aghast because there’s a rule against calling the President names while speaking from the floor. Even if it’s a President who just constantly calls people names. And the whole scene quickly turned into the procedural equivalent of a bench-clearing brawl. You can watch Pelosi’s entire speech including the aftermath, by clicking here.
Trump meanwhile Tweeted that “Nancy Pelosi tried to push them away, but now they are forever wedded to the Democrat Party. See you in 2020!”. And remember, as always, Trump’s Tweets are wishes, and he would very much like Democratic Representatives Omar (MN), Ocasio-Cortez (NY), Tlaib (MI), and Pressley (MA), to be the faces of the Democratic Party going into the 2020 election, attached to a personal message from him that they “hate our Country”, say and want to do “HORRIBLE” things, because just like in 2016, he’s got to get people really really scared in order to win.
As we previously reported, the White House (helped by friendly news organizations), has been working overtime to keep the young, female, POC Representatives in the spotlight. Because they think that’ll help them win. (And they can’t simply run against Nancy Pelosi anymore, as Republicans have been doing for decades). And while Omar, Ocasio-Cortez, Tlaib, and Pressley have very effectively both disrupted stuff and made splashes, that Republican effort hasn’t really stuck. So more recently Trump, et. al., are focusing on publicizing a rift between Omar, Ocasio-Cortez, et. al., and Nancy Pelosi, trying to discredit all of them in the process. That hasn’t worked spectacularly well either. So now it’s just gonna be: “be very afraid of people who hate our country and are not ‘real’ Americans, scheming to infiltrate our government with the aim of executing frightening ideas”.
Some smart people we know (but who assured us Trump wouldn’t win), think it’ll work as a political strategy. We (who predicted Trump would win) don’t think it will. But just because we were right last time, doesn’t mean we can’t be wrong.
But let’s get one thing cleared away: whether what the President Tweeted is absolutely, without question, racist.
Even if you continue to support him for other reasons. Even despite Trump’s Tweeted protestation that “I don’t have a Racist bone in my body!”
It is racist. The end.
We’ll let Trump’s former Communications Director Anthony Scaramucci give one good reason why:
